Beginning January 1st, first-time DUI offenders will be required to install an interlock device on their cars or forfeit their driver’s licenses. The law also increases the duration of license suspensions for first-time offenders. If you are found under the influence, you will now receive a six-month license suspension. If you refuse the test, you will receive a one-year suspension.
Aside from having to breath into the device to get their vehicles to start, offenders will have to pay a $30 monitoring fee as well as the charges for installing and leasing the interlock device.

Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) is currently pushing to have all states pass laws requiring first-time DUI offenders to install interlock devices on their cars. In Pennsylvania, MADD is promoting a similar law.
