In the News: New Pittsburgh City gun ordinance passes without Mayor’s signature
A new City of Pittsburgh ordinance requiring gun owners to report a lost or stolen gun within 24 hours has become law. Mayor Luke Ravenstahl, noting his belief that the law is ultimately unenforceable and pre-empted by state gun laws, did not sign the bill.
The ordinance took effect on Monday, December 15, 2008. Gun owners now face a $500 fine for a first offense and a $1000 fine plus possible jail time for a second offense.
