The Greensburg and Meadville barracks of the Pennsylvania State Police are planning sobriety checkpoints in July.
In a press release, the Meadville unit announced that it would be using sobriety checkpoints and roving patrols throughout the Fourth of July holiday. The Greensburg office announced that Troop A would be operating a sobriety checkpoint in Westmoreland County from July 1st to July 4th.
According to the CDC, well-publicized DUI checkpoints and saturation patrols are effective in reducing alcohol-related crashes. In Pennsylvania, sobriety checkpoints and roving patrols have been repeatedly found to be constitutional.
