A report from the California Sex Offender Management Board suggests that “homeless sex offender parolees are more likely to commit sex crimes again.” The study also shows that since residency restrictions have passed, homelessness among registered sex offenders has increased exponentially.
With many residency requirements, registered sex offenders are not permitted to live within a certain distance of schools or other locations children may gather. Unfortunately, many of the restrictions make it impossible for registered sex offenders to find a home, thus causing them to be homeless. The report notes that homeless sex offenders are difficult to track and are unable to get treatment.
